[Outcomes of expanded use of PCA3 testing in a Spanish population with clinical suspicion of prostate cancer].

OBJECTIVES DD3(PCA3) (PCA3) gene expression is prostate cancer-specific. Routine use of this biomarker has resulted in a 35-67% reduction in the number of required biopsies. The aim of this study is to evaluate our outcomes in its routine use and to establish in which group of patients this is the most efficient, depending on the number of previous PCA3 biopsies. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total ...

PCA3 score vs PSA free/total accuracy in prostate cancer diagnosis at repeat saturation biopsy.

AIM PCA3 score and PSA free/total (F/T) accuracy in PCa diagnosis at repeat saturation prostate biopsy (SPBx) in patients with PSA between 4 and 10 ng/mL was evaluated. MATERIALS AND METHODS From October 2009 to September 2011 74 men (median 64 years) with persistent high or increasing PSA values, negative DRE, median PSA values of 8.9 ng/mL and primary negative extended biopsy underwent a SP...

Value of PCA3 to Predict Biopsy Outcome and Its Potential Role in Selecting Patients for Multiparametric MRI

PCA3 (prostate cancer gene 3) and multiparametric 3 tesla MRI are new promising diagnostic tools in the detection of PCa. Our aim was to study the clinical value of the Progensa PCA3-test: its predictive value for biopsy outcome, Gleason score and MRI outcome. We evaluated, retrospectively, 591 patients who underwent a Progensa PCA3-test at the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre between...

Optimising repeat prostate biopsy decisions and procedures.

What's known on the subject? and What does the study add? Due to the fear of missing clinically significant cancer, it is often uncertain whether a repeat biopsy should be performed in men with ≥ 1 prior negative prostate biopsies but persistent suspicion of prostate cancer. However, the repeat biopsy may again be negative and a biopsy may be associated with anxiety, discomfort and complication...

The roles of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging, PCA3 and prostate health index-which is the best predictor of prostate cancer after a negative biopsy?

PURPOSE In patients with a negative prostate biopsy and persistent suspicion of prostate cancer, additional analyses such as the PCA3 score, PHI and multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging have been proposed to reduce the number of unnecessary repeat biopsies. In this study we evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of PCA3, PHI, multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging and various combinations o...
